Yacht Charter in Spain: Ibiza, Mallorca & the Costa Brava

Spain offers one of the most diverse yacht charter experiences in the entire Mediterranean. From the electric energy of Ibiza and the polished harbours of Mallorca to the wild coves of the Costa Brava and the dramatic Canary Islands, Spanish waters cater for every style of charter — family holidays, high-energy social cruising, remote exploration, and corporate entertainment. What unites them is superb infrastructure, exceptional food and wine, and a reliably warm and sunny climate from May through October.

The Balearic Islands: Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca & Formentera

Ibiza — Energy and Beauty

Ibiza has two faces, and a yacht charter reveals both. By day, the island’s coast is extraordinary: dramatic red cliffs, hidden coves with turquoise water, the ancient walled city of Dalt Vila rising above the harbour. By night, Ibiza is the world’s most famous club destination — and a yacht provides the perfect base, allowing guests to come and go from the island’s nightlife on their own terms, anchored in one of the quieter bays away from the crowds.

The best anchorages for daytime swimming are in the north and west of the island — Cala Salada, Cala d’Hort (with views of the mysterious rock of Es Vedrà), and the extraordinary clear water of Cala Conta. Puerto Ibiza’s marina is well-equipped and central. The circuit from Ibiza to Formentera — a 45-minute sail south — takes you to some of the finest shallow-water anchorages in the western Mediterranean.

Mallorca — The Complete Package

Mallorca is the most complete sailing destination in the western Mediterranean. The island has everything: dramatic limestone mountains (the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) dropping to the sea in the northwest; sheltered anchorages in the east and south; the sophisticated capital Palma with its Gothic cathedral and world-class restaurant scene; and excellent marina infrastructure at Port Adriano, Puerto Portals, and Marina Port de Mallorca. For a family charter or a group that wants variety — culture, beaches, water sports, and nightlife — Mallorca is difficult to beat.

Menorca — Peace and Nature

The least visited of the main Balearic islands, Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with the most pristine coastline in the archipelago. The anchorages here — Cala Macarella, Cala Turqueta, Son Saura — are among the most beautiful in Spain, with white sand beaches accessible only by sea. Mahon, the capital, has one of the finest natural harbours in the Mediterranean.

Formentera — Paradise Found

Formentera is the smallest and most remote of the Balearic islands, and its waters are the clearest in Spain. The shallow lagoon between Formentera and Ibiza — protected as a Posidonia seagrass marine reserve — has an extraordinary turquoise colour visible from satellite. Anchoring here, in 2–3 metres of crystal-clear water, is the defining Balearic experience.

The Costa Brava

North of Barcelona, the Costa Brava (literally ‘wild coast’) offers a completely different character from the Balearics — rocky headlands, pine forests to the water’s edge, medieval hilltop villages, and a Catalan cultural depth that distinguishes it from the more international island scene. The Salvador Dalí triangle (Figueres, Cadaqués, Portlligat) is one of the most remarkable cultural excursions available from a charter yacht on the Spanish coast. Cadaqués itself — a white-washed village in a bay surrounded by dramatic cliffs — is one of the most beautiful small towns in Spain.

Costs: Yacht Charter in Spain 2026

  • Sailing yachts (10–14m): €4,000 – €15,000 per week
  • Catamarans (12–16m): €8,000 – €30,000 per week
  • Motor yachts (15–30m): €20,000 – €100,000 per week
  • Superyachts: €100,000 – €500,000+ per week

Spain is comparable in price to Greece and slightly more expensive than Turkey at equivalent specification. Marina fees in Ibiza and Mallorca in peak season have risen significantly — budget €300–800 per night at premium marinas. The best values are in Menorca and the Costa Brava, where demand is lower and anchorage fees minimal.

Best Time to Charter in Spain

May, June, and September are the optimal months — good weather, lower prices than July and August, and far fewer crowds at the most popular anchorages. July and August are peak season and peak price: book 6–12 months ahead. The Balearics have excellent weather from April through October; the Costa Brava can be windy in spring but is superb in summer.
